The Daily Ration is a great spot for a Chattanooga brunch.
Located on the Northshore of downtown Chattanooga sits The Daily Ration. Here you’ll find American staples as well as unique twists on some favorites. There’s something for everyone at this place. Continue reading to learn more about what they offer and how it all started.
What is The Daily Ration?
From the Beginning
The Daily Ration is owned by Chattanooga local, Jason Bowers. But this is not his first establishment. It all started with The Bitter Alibi. I have yet to visit The Bitter Alibi but it’s another local favorite taking the classic bar and grill idea up a notch.
The Daily Ration opened two years after The Bitter Alibi when the owners of the previous restaurant located here decided to sell their business. Jason bought it and crafted The Daily Ration from what was already there.
Today and the Future
Today The Daily Ration continues to evolve as the world around us changes too. And, there’s more places being added to this ever-growing business. Clever Alehouse is set to open soon this year in Red Bank. Civil Provisions and Bar is also slated to open later this year on Signal Mountain.
When to Visit The Daily Ration
The Daily Ration is open for brunch seven days a week. They have local coffee with an espresso machine, a full bar, and some great comfort food with modern flare. And if you’re going for brunch on the weekend, get there early because this is a popular place. There’s free parking on site, but the spots fill up quick.
What to Order at The Daily Ration
The menu is updated periodically allowing you to try new things. Be sure to check out the menu on their website so you can find something you want to try.
Breakfast
If you’re going for breakfast food, there’s plenty of options. One of their best sellers, and my favorite too, is the classic “Breakfast Plate”. It includes two eggs however you’d like them cooked, breakfast potatoes, meat of your choice, and a biscuit. You can get bacon, sausage, chorizo, or even smoked salmon (for an extra cost).
I’ve also tried their “Flapjacks” and they are amazing as well. This dish comes with three pancakes topped with whipped butter and a side of bourbon maple syrup. The pancakes are a balance of fluffy and hearty and are sure to fill you up.
Lunch
If lunch is more your speed, you also have many entrees to choose from. I tried “The D.R. Burger” last time I was there and it was really good. It’s a seasoned burger with lettuce, tomato, garlic aioli, bacon, cheddar cheese and an egg on top. It’s packed with flavor and sits so tall it’s hard to eat, but is well worth the struggle. As they always say, the messiest foods are the best foods.
Also pictured is the Smoked Club. I did not try this personally but I was told it was good. It’s smoked ham, turkey, and bacon with lettuce, tomato, cajun aioli, and cheddar cheese sandwiched between two sourdough slices.
What’s Upcoming at The Daily Ration
The Daily Ration is always evolving to serve our community. They firmly believe in supporting the community however they can and supporting other small businesses as well. You never know what ideas they have waiting to come to life.
For starters, they are considering opening for summer nights to further bond with the community. The Daily Ration and affiliated restaurants will always be seeking to better those around them. To keep up with their special events, follow them on Instagram.
Closing Thoughts on The Daily Ration
I love the comfort food and atmosphere at the Daily Ration. It’s perfect for whatever the weather may bring and you can sit inside or outside. I also love that they serve local coffee as an added touch of coziness. And I really love the mission to always stay connected in the community and support local business in Chattanooga as a whole.
