Chattanooga Ice Cream on a hot summer day…sounds delightful doesn’t it? Then let me introduce you to Clumpies. With three locations throughout downtown Chattanooga, you’ll be able to easily grab a refreshing, sweet treat on a hot afternoon.
About
Sweet treats are in the bloodline of Clumpies. What I mean is, the company was started by the grandson of a candy-maker in 1999 before being passed on to new owners in 2013. But the original mission statement remains “Serve every guest that walks through the doors incredible ice cream, and create unforgettable memories worth repeating.” And I must say that this is kept true to this day.
How it’s Different
Clumpies stands out in the crowd because, naturally as a candy-maker would, all their ingredients are made by scratch in house. From fruit curds that are swirled into flavors such as Orange and Key Lime Cheesecake to cakes that are swirled into flavors like Brown Sugar Cinnamon Coffee Cake and Carrot Cake. And don’t forget their salted caramel sauce topping and sammies (the Clumpies rendition of an ice cream sandwich).
Ice cream is always made in small batches to ensure freshness and quality. And supporting the local community is another passion of theirs. They love to source their ingredients from other local Chattanooga businesses. Such as local coffee roasters, breweries, and orchards, just to name a few.
Flavors
If you still need convincing, how about checking out these unique lists of flavors. You can choose a classic ice cream flavor if that’s your comfort zone. But maybe consider trying something like Espresso Chocolate Chunk or Cherry Lime Sorbet (pictured below). Yes, they also do sorbets as well as ice creams and they are just as delectable.
If you’re more adventurous and wish to try something very different, consider the seasonal Mint Julep or Matcha Berry Crunch (pictured below).
Or, if you prefer to meet somewhere in the middle between wild and mundane, consider trying a flavor like Coconut Almond Chunk (on the left) or Key Lime Cheesecake (on the right).
Whatever your taste buds preference, you’ll be sure to find an amazing flavor that you absolutely love here. And as the seasons change, so do the flavors. So, there’s always something new to try at Clumpies.
Dietary Needs
For those of you with specific dietary needs, Clumpies offers a few options. They keep three dairy-free flavors on their permanent menu at each location. As for seasonal flavors, they add anywhere between one and three dairy-free options as well so there’s plenty to choose from. Currently, they do not offer any sugar-free.
Clumpies at Home
If you’re able to stop by one of their locations, you can order pickup or go in and grab a pint of any flavor. The Northshore location has a cooler up front with flavors already packaged and ready to go. Whereas, the Southside location will scoop your desired take-home flavor when you order it. Either way, rest assured you’re getting fresh ice cream for later.
What to Try Next
Everything I tried at Clumpies was wonderful and I can’t wait to go back and try a few flavors I missed out on the first time around. I really want to try a sammie because they look wonderful and again, they come in a variety of unique flavor combinations. And, I really want to try one of their many coffee based ice cream flavors because, as we know, I like coffee…and ice cream so, it just makes sense right?
