Chattanooga Hiking Through the Year

Chattanooga hiking is best enjoyed all year long. But which hikes are the best for which season?

Knowing when to hike specific trails is key to enjoying Chattanooga hiking. Continue reading to learn more about what to expect each season so you can choose your hikes wisely. Also, my new e book “A Year of Hiking” is now available for purchase. More info about the book and how you might win your own copy of it, will be at the end of this post.

Chattanooga Hiking

Chattanooga is well known for its various hiking trails. Since Chattanooga is also in a temperate climate, hiking can be enjoyed year round. But we still have four seasons. Not only is it important to know what types of hikes to take during which seasons, it’s also important to note how the weather affects various hiking features.

Winter Chattanooga Hiking

Cold weather makes the strenuous hikes more rewarding. Winter is my favorite time to hike because I don’t sweat as much and hiking is simply easier. And in this part of the country, it’s the best time to see waterfalls because we get the most rain during winter. So, plan your longer hikes and waterfall sight-seeing hikes during the winter months.

Spring Chattanooga Hiking

The weather starts to get a little warmer and the flowers are blooming. This is the time to enjoy the plants on your hike. The wildflowers are popping up and the trees are starting to grow leaves again. But be prepared if you have seasonal allergies because Chattanooga has a concentration of plant pollen. This is the time to plan wildflower hikes as well as some waterfall hikes because it’s still a bit rainy out.

Summer Chattanooga Hiking

It’s getting hot out now and the best hikes are paired with swimming holes. But, sometimes you’ll find relief from the heat just in a small valley between the mountains. This is my least favorite time to hike, but swimming in the cold waters makes it well worth the sweaty struggle. Plan your hikes around swimming holes or in deep valleys. Avoid waterfall hikes because we are entering the dry season.

Fall Chattanooga Hiking

The weather is starting to get cool again now. And if you time it right, you can see some beautiful, fall foliage on your hikes. The leaves typically change here around the last two weeks of October through the first two weeks of November. The leaves are really best for only a week and the dates of that week change year to year. Now is the time to plan hikes with overlooks so you can really enjoy the fall colors.

A Year of Hiking

You don’t have to figure out where to hike in the Chattanooga area on your own. I created an e book just for you! This book contains 12 hikes, that’s 1 hike for every month of the year. And they are divided amongst the seasons so you can rest assured that you’re hiking the perfect hike for that time of the year. Not only does your purchase of the book come with details, maps, and more, but you’ll also gain access to the Facebook community. This is where we can encourage one another to complete a year of hiking, share our experiences, and more.

Inside the Book

This book was created for you by (possibly) you. I took all the feedback from Exploring Chatt Club members and used the information to make this e book. Inside, you’ll find details about each hike, covering the span of two pages per hike. Each hike also has its own map, making navigation easier. And lastly, each hike has its own journal section so you can reflect on each one. All together, this hefty book is 60 pages long with all the info you need to get out and confidently hike throughout the year.
