Bakeries for Bread in Chattanooga

Some of the best bakeries in Chattanooga for a loaf of bread.

Most people buy their bread at the grocery store, but Chattanooga offers a few different options when it comes to local bakeries. Next time you’re in need of a loaf, try one of these places below.

Bread and Butter

Bread and Butter has a great variety of round bread loaves as well as other baked treats. They even have a fridge where you can purchase their pre-made sandwiches and house-made butters as well as other locally made foods and drinks. I highly recommend their breakfast pockets (not pictured, sorry). They are filled with potato, egg, and sausage and make for the perfect little filling breakfast on the go which you can pair with their coffee options from the local Velo coffee shop. Pictured above you’ll see their cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese frosting, some of their bread loaf varieties, and other baked goods they have on display. Every day of the week is dedicated to making a different bread flavor, so be sure to check ahead of time if you’re looking for something specific. They also sell their day old bread at a discount. It might be a day older than the fresh ones on the rack, but it’s just as good.

Niedlov’s

If you’ve been around to a few local, downtown Chattanooga restaurants, chances are you’ve seen this name before. That’s because Niedlov’s has been a busy bakery since they opened in 2002. They make all their goods from scratch and many of their sandwich buns and other breads are used by the local restaurants nearby. Whether you’re in need of a good sandwich for lunch or a cup of coffee, this place has you covered. They make sandwiches to order and have an espresso bar serving coffee from a couple local coffee roasters. There’s plenty of seating inside and out on the patio so this spot makes for a great meeting place. Like the previous bakery mentioned, there are different breads made on different days so be sure to plan accordingly to your needs or preferences. Pictured above is their huge lemon curd pastry (picture does not show justice to the size), ciabatta roll, and other bread loaves and baked goodies.

Bread Basket

The Bread Basket was started by a Signal Mountain local back in the 1980’s. At first she sold her infamous apple bread at the local apple orchard in the fall. As popularity grew, she was able to move into her own shop and start making other baked goods as well. Today, they have three locations, but I chose to visit the first one on Signal Mountain. Pictured above you’ll see the “Tennessee Orange Bran Muffin” which was the perfect balance of sweet and moist. Also pictured is the “Cinnamon Apple Bread Mini Loaf.” Again, this was not overly sweet either. If you’re looking for softer crusted loaf of bread, there are different sourdough based varieties to fit your needs.

That’s just the outer crust of what these local bakeries have to offer. Check them out for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments below. Until next time, I’ll see you out Exploring Chatt!
