3 Best Bread Bakeries in Chattanooga

Chattanooga has 3 amazing bakeries to satisfy your bread needs and more.

Many people buy their bread at the grocery store, but Chattanooga offers a few different options when it comes to local bakeries. Next time you’re in need of a loaf, some rolls, or even pastries, you should try one of these local Chattanooga bakeries instead. Keep reading to learn more about each bakery, what they have to offer, and where to find them.

Bread and Butter Bakery

Bread and Butter Bakery has a great variety of round bread loaves as well as other baked treats. Their bread is all sourdough based and made fresh daily. They also have a fridge where you can purchase other locally made foods and drinks.

I have yet to try their breakfast sandwiches, but people really enjoy them. They’re available until noon and are made to order. This makes for the perfect little filling breakfast on the go which you can pair with their coffee options from a local coffee shop.

Pictured above you’ll see their cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese frosting, some of their bread loaf varieties, and other baked goods they have on display. Note, their baked goods rotate seasonly so be sure to keep an eye out for what they have available at any given time.

Every day of the week is dedicated to making a different bread flavor, so be sure to check ahead of time if you’re looking for something specific. They also sell their day-old bread at a discount. It might be a day older than the fresh ones on the rack, but it’s just as good.

Niedlov’s Cafe and Bakery

If you’ve been around to a few local, downtown Chattanooga restaurants, chances are you’ve seen this name before. That’s because Niedlov’s has been a busy bakery since they opened in 2002. They make all their goods from scratch and many of their sandwich buns and other breads are used by the local restaurants nearby. Whether you’re in need of a good sandwich for lunch or a cup of coffee, this place has you covered. They make sandwiches to order and have an espresso bar serving coffee from a couple local coffee roasters.

There’s plenty of seating inside and out on the patio so this spot makes for a great meeting place, however keep in mind that this is a popular spot so it can get busy real quick.

Like Bread and Butter, they make different breads on different days so be sure to plan accordingly to your needs or preferences. And their baked goods also change seasonally. Pictured above is their huge lemon curd pastry (picture does not show justice to the size), ciabatta roll, and other bread loaves and baked goodies.

The Bread Basket Bakery

The Bread Basket Bakery was started by a Signal Mountain local, Marie Hyde, back in the 1980’s. At first she sold her famous apple bread at the local apple orchard in the fall. As popularity grew, she was able to move into her own shop and start making other baked goods as well. Today, there’s five Bread Basket locations. Pictured below is the first location on Signal Mountain.

Also pictured above is the “Tennessee Orange Bran Muffin” which is the perfect balance of sweet and moist. Also pictured is the “Cinnamon Apple Bread Mini Loaf.” Again, this is not overly sweet either. They are also well-known for their cakes, which I have yet to try.

This is the bakery for you if you’re looking for a softer crusted loaf of bread. They offer different sourdough based varieties to fit your needs.

If you are a sourdough lover, try the one offered at Nutrition World, Mama Mia’s Sourdough. The baker, I am told, is a mom of 4. How does she find the time??? It is superb, but don’t dawdle to purchase it…it is generally sold out the day after it is delivered.
